KONSTANTIN GRCIC
DESIGNER
Konstantin Grcic (*1965) machte zunächst eine Lehre als Möbelschreiner am Parnham College (Dorset, England), darauf folgte das Masterstudium im Bereich Design am Royal College of Art in London. Seit der Gründung seines eigenen Büros in München 1991 hat er Möbel, Produkte und Leuchten für führende Designunternehmen entwickelt. Heute arbeitet er mit seinem Büro Konstantin Grcic Design von Berlin aus an verschiedenen Projekten im Bereich Industrie- und Möbeldesign, über Ausstellungsdesign bis hin zu Kollaborationen in den Bereichen Architektur und Mode.
Viele seiner Produkte wurden mit internationalen Design-Preisen ausgezeichnet (u.a. Compasso d’Oro 2001/2011/2016) und sind heute Bestandteil der ständigen Sammlungen einiger der renommiertesten Museen (u.a. MoMA/New York, Centre Georges Pompidou/Paris). Einzelausstellungen seiner Arbeit wurden u.a. im Haus der Kunst (München, 2006), dem The Art Institute of Chicago (2009), dem Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein, 2014), der Neuen Sammlung (München, 2015) und dem Haus am Waldsee (Berlin, 2022) gezeigt. Kuratiert und inszeniert hat er Ausstellungen u.a. in der Serpentine Gallery (London, 2009), dem Deutschen Pavillon der Architekturbiennale Venedig (2012), dem Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein, 2018/2021) und dem MAXXI Museum (Rom, 2020). Seit 2020 hat er eine Professur für Design an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg und seit 2022 ist er Mitglied der Akademie der Künste in Berlin.
